Azam-us-Samar, a nearly extinct breed of mangoes known for being incredibly juicy and sweet, is being cultivated on a small scale on the city outskirts. It was first planted in the gardens of Nawab Azam Ali Khan.

Planted by an Late ANGRAU professor Mir Mustaf Hussain at various farms in Shamshabad and Moinabad to save the mango from extinction, Azam-us-Samar is believed to be one of the tastiest varieties of mango that used to be sent to Buckingham Palace for Queen Victoria until the death of Nawab Azam Ali Khan.

Sayeeduddin, who has few trees of this rare variety of Mangoes on his farm, says that these mangoes are sweeter, bigger and heavier than other varieties and are extremely fragrant. It is said that there are only 200 trees of this variety around Ibrahimpatnam, Moinabad, Shadnagar and Shankerpally.
