The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will setup three more Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Projects (IMSWMP) and four more dumpyards in the city. The IMSWMPs will be in addition to the project at Chinnaravulapally plant in Bibinagar.

The All Party Committee which met at the GHMC head office on Saturday decided that an action plan will be prepared within a month to execute the projects. The committee felt that the Jawaharnagar dumpyard has almost reached its saturation point and there is immediate need for more dumping yards in the GHMC limits.

Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali announced that the decision to build four more dumpyards was reached after a discussion with the elected representatives of all parties. He added that the existing garbage transfer stations would be modernised and their number would be increased to 20 from the present 12.

Secretary general of Telangana Rashtra Samithi K Keshava Rao said that this decision will re-haul Hyderabad as an international city. The committee has decided to buy 2,500 auto-trolleys and 1,500 tricycles. 2,000 auto-trolleys will be purchased in the first phase which costs Rs 5 lakh approximately.

A subsidy of 10 per cent would be given to SC/ST candidates and 20 per cent to the minorities. A target of 800 houses will be given to the every auto driver. The GHMC would look after the maintenance of the auto trolleys. The committee also mentioned that special preference would be given sanitation workers who collect door-to-door garbage. The GHMC is likely to involve three or four agencies to monitor the sanitation works.

The meeting, organised on Saturday to strengthen Swachh Hyderabad programme, further decided to implement new methods for proper collection and reuse of debris generated while constructing new buildings and demolishing old ones. Meanwhile, the Solid Waste Management Project in Chinnaravulapally will start its production from August 1st and will be inaugurated by the chief minister.
