The delay in distribution of textbooks for primary schools even after twenty days of schools reopening has caused concern among students as well as teachers in the district. Every year the situation remains same in the district, where the officials fail to supply adequate number of textbooks to the students in time.

Though the authorities claim that effective measures are taken to ensure that the textbooks reach students in time, the situation is different at the text books distribution points. The State government which ensured the supply of textbooks from class I to class X has not formulated proper guidelines to fulfill the task in stipulated time.

In Krishna District the 3,340 schools run by the government require 20, 21,363 textbooks. As of now the Education Department has received stocks of 18,95,939 textbooks while it is yet to receive 1,25,424 more. About 17,77,767 text books were supplied to the primary schools in the district in a phased manner.

Meanwhile, the State government has also promised distributing text books for the Intermediate students in various government junior colleges. As of now the government has distributed only 60,647 text books out of two lakh text book requirement. Delay in supply of textbooks is a recurring phenomenon that subjects, both students and teachers, to problems.

Speaking to The Hans India, Deputy Education Officer K Ravi Kumar said that before bifurcation of the State, text books were printed at Hyderabad and supplied to various parts of the State. But now, the State government has entrusted the work to private printing centers in various districts to supply the text books for the thirteen districts.

“We are expecting all the stocks by July 20, this year we faced a hurdle with the delay in the printing works. Last year, we had supplied the text books in April. This academic year, we already have got at least 80 per cent of the textbooks ready for distribution.” he added.

The Students Federation of India (SFI) city president T Praveen said that the State government which excepts 100 per cent results from the students of municipal schools failed to supply adequate number of textbooks so far, despite its promise to ensure supply by June 15. Delay in text book supply for the students throwing them back in their academics.

He demanded government to supply the remaining stock of text books to the students without any further delay and also provide toilets and other basic infrastructure in the municipal schools for the convenience of the students.
