In view of the increasing power demand in the ensuing Kharif season, Telangana State Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Monday instructed the power utilities to procure additional power to meet the domestic, industrial and agricultural needs. The Minister held a review meeting with the top officials of the Energy Department on power supply arrangements in the agricultural season.

Hyderabad: In view of the increasing power demand in the ensuing Kharif season, Telangana State Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Monday instructed the power utilities to procure additional power to meet the domestic, industrial and agricultural needs. The Minister held a review meeting with the top officials of the Energy Department on power supply arrangements in the agricultural season.


As promised by Chief Minister K Chadnashekar Rao earlier, Reddy asked the officials to ensure nine-hour power supply to farming sector and also supply power round-the-clock to the domestic sector. He wanted the DISCOMS to release all the pending agricultural pump set connections before March 2016.


The Minister said the government also approved the proposal to take Rs 1,000 crore loan from Rural Electricity Corporation (REC) to strengthen the rural distribution system including providing new poles, laying up of new lines and feeders. TSTRANSCO Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhkar Rao, TSSPDCL Chairman G Raghuma Reddy and other officials were also present.
