Acting on a tip-off, the Kalapathar police under the supervision of ACP (Charminar) K Ashok Chakravarthy conducted a raid on the factory Monday and rescued 13 child labourers in the age group of 12-17.

Hyderabad: Thirteen children were rescued from a bag manufacturing factory in Kalapathar area here on Tuesday. The owner of the factory was booked under charges of employing children and keeping the workers confined as bonded labourers. Acting on a tip-off, the Kalapathar police under the supervision of ACP (Charminar) K Ashok Chakravarthy conducted a raid on the factory Monday and rescued 13 child labourers in the age group of 12-17.


The factory was located in a building near Sujatha Hotel in Kalapathar area. Preliminary investigation revealed that the children came from Kolkata. “They have been working in small confined rooms for the last one month. Apart from food and shelter, the owner, Md Ahmed Khan, paid them a monthly salary of Rs 5000,” the ACP said. Search was on to trace other children. The rescue of the children was informed to the officials of the Child and Labour Welfare Department who shifted them to the rescue homes.
