Whether it was a serious athlete, a fitness enthusiast or a novice trying to impress his girlfriend, everyone were there to participate in the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon on Sunday.

Running shoes? Check. Energy bar? Check. Raring to burst on the running track? Check, check, check. Whether it was a serious athlete, a fitness enthusiast or a novice trying to impress his girlfriend, everyone were there to participate in the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon on Sunday.

Jyoti Gawate and Kenyan Titus Karinki emerged as the women and men champion runners in the Full Marathon in the fifth edition of the run. Gawate clocked 3hours 05mts while Karinki accomplished the run with a timing of 2hrs 32mts. Meanwhile,Bhanupratap Singh (2hrs 46mts) was declared the fastest in the elite Indian category.

A record 14, 000 runners, including men and women from various age-groups, participated in the unique event that also featured half-marathon ((21.095 kms) and a 10K Run. Jyoti Gawate and Bhanupratap Singh will enjoy a fully paid trip to the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, courtesy of Shriram Life Insurance, one of the sponsors of the event.

Meanwhile, the half-marathon toppers Srinivas Bugatha (1hour 10mts) and Jyoti Chauhan (1hour 26mins) were given high-end Airtel 4G powered iPhone 6. The 10K winners were Rakesh Kumar (32mts) and Yamini Ganesh (42mts). Meanwhile, the Corporate Trophy was conferred on United Health Group for fielding a mindboggling 1300 entries overall.

The grand finale was held at the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli. The event was held under the aegis of Hyderabad Runners Society, which supports several social organisations like Isha Vidhya, Waste Warriors, Asha, and Desire Society, Soles for Souls among others.
