Hyderabad: In order to strengthen education sector and to introduce reforms in the system, Telangana People’s Education Reform Movement has been kick-started by Telangana intellectuals, academicians, teacher unions and student unions on Sunday.

To carry forward the movement, a 54-member committee was constituted with members drawn from the various fields during the State-wide education meeting held at Tagore Auditorium, Osmania University here. The committee will also have 11 advisers.

Speaking on the occasion, Committee chairman, Prof Kancha Ilaiah said while the Telangana government had announced KG to PG free education programme, however, there was no clarity on the scheme till date. Prof Ilaiah felt there was a need to merge all the Anganwadi centres into pre-primary kindergarten centres in the villages.

Speaking on the occasion, eminent educationist Chukka Ramaiah opined that there would be a revolution if kindergarten education was made available in every village. Only some sections of people were getting benefits due to privatisation of education. Education should be creative, he said, and expressed his concern over the growing unemployment due to unscientific education.

The Hans India editor and former MLC Prof K Nageshwar criticised the government alleging that it was opening the gates to the bars by neglecting education system. He ridiculed that the government was closing the schools and opening bars.

“Instead of schools, the government is opening bars at neighboring streets,” he rued and opined that the government would take the right path only when the Opposition parties and unions waged a united fight.
