Hyderabad/Mumbai: The last-minute rush to file income-tax returns made the website crash on Monday, which was the last day for filing the returns. The heavy rush by the tax-payers to meet the deadline has forced the website to crash several times. The government has extended the due date in Gujarat and set the deadline till September 7 due to the ongoing agitation.


However, there is no change in due date for the individuals outside Gujarat.The social media was agog with people expressing their anger over the website crash. They demand extension of the date for filing returns. The I-T department has made it mandatory for those who earn over Rs 10 lakh per year or having assets abroad to file online to file their returns online from this financial year.


According to the Central Board of Direct Taxation, there is a raise in the e-filing returns this year. The official site remained inaccessible on Monday, thus resulting in delay in filing the returns.
