Woman cop scales Mt Kun

Adilabad ASP is the first woman police officer in both the Telugu States to achieve the feat of scaling 7,077-metre peak

Adilabad: Adilabad Additional Superintendent of Police and mother of two, G R Radhika, has achieved the amazing feat of scaling the Mount Kun located at an altitude of 7,077 metres in the Zanskar Range of Jammu and Kashmir.

The 35-year-old English lecturer-turned-cop’s passion for climbing mountains is well-known as she had already successfully trekked the 5,980-metre Golep Kangri peak, also located in the Zanskar Range of the Western Himalayas, near the Karakoram range in September 2013.

She is the first woman police officer of the two Telugu-speaking States to scale such a height and to complete the India-to-China trekking expedition.

In her first expedition, she had to battle high winds and sub-zero temperatures in snow and ice where oxygen content was minimal. It may be mentioned here that Radhika completed the Basic Course in Mountaineering at the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources, Radhika, accompanied by seven other mountaineers, started her trek on September 7 and reportedly completed on Friday.

Speaking to Radhika on Saturday, Adilabad Superintendent of Police Tarun Joshi congratulated her saying, “You not only made the district police proud but also the entire police department of the Telangana State.”

Radhika hails from Anantapur and earlier served as Nellore city DSP between 2009 and 2011. She also worked in Karimnagar in 2012 before she was elevated as ASP in January 2015.
