The company has three electric scooters - Oma Star, Oma Star X and Genius – in its line-up. Priced from Rs 27,666 to Rs 40,666, these two-wheelers have a top speed of 25 kmph and range of over 60 km. Besides, Lohia Auto also has a diesel three-wheeler range ‘Humsafar’.

Hyderabad: Cycle rickshaws have become a rare sight now. Those yearning for an “open-air ride” in a rickshaw can soon have their longing fulfilled. Lohia Auto Industries have launched electric rickshaws in Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh. Called Humrahi and priced at Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom), the e-rickshaw can be used for both ferrying passengers and carrying cargo. It can accommodate four passengers. The e-rickshaw takes 10 hours for full recharge and has a driving range of around 70 km.

“These rickshaws are easy to operate, low in maintenance expenses and cost much less than the traditional auto-rickshaws and battery-pulled three-wheelers. Given their large wheel base, they are stable and can comfortably ply even on sub-standards roads,” Ayush Lohia, CEO, Lohia Auto Industries, told media here. Telangana State Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy unveiled the e-rickshaw on Friday along with other vehicles of Lohia Auto such as electric scooters and diesel three-wheelers.

The launch marks the Noida-based company’s foray into south Indian market. The company has three electric scooters - Oma Star, Oma Star X and Genius – in its line-up. Priced from Rs 27,666 to Rs 40,666, these two-wheelers have a top speed of 25 kmph and range of over 60 km. Besides, it also has diesel three-wheeler range named Humsafar.

“The launch of our entire range of vehicles in south India is a key milestone for us as this market with its discerning customers, holds significant potential for our products. In the next few years, we see a large chunk of overall revenues coming from the southern market,” Lohia maintained. The company has appointed five dealerships in Telangana State and AP and plans to take the number to 50 outlets across south India in the next one year.
