No joint session

Opposition set to stall Assembly
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who proposed to hold a joint session and make a presentation on re-engineering of irrigation projects, is understood to have dropped the idea on the advice of Governor ESL Narasimhan, even as the Opposition is sharpening its arsenal to attack the government on the loan-waver issue.
It may be recalled here that the Chief Minister had held a 4-hour meeting with the Governor on Friday and expressed his desire to convene a joint session of the Legislative Assembly and Council.
KCR is understood to have informed the Governor that with Karnataka and Maharashtra constructing illegal projects across Krishna and Godavari, Telangana could face greater water crisis. If the state does not go in for re-engineering of the projects the existing reservoirs and those which are under construction may go dry.
But according to sources, the Governor told the Chief Minister that a joint session would lead to greater trouble as the Opposition would raise several questions and it could lead to pandemonium.
He is learnt to have suggested that if KCR desired, he could convene an all-party meeting and organise a presentation outside the Assembly. Following this, KCR is learnt to have decided to drop the proposal to hold the joint session.
Meanwhile, the Opposition is gearing up for confronting the government on the issue of one-time loan waiver for farmers on Monday. The Congress, TDP, BJP and Left parties held informal discussion on Saturday and decided to stall the proceedings on Monday if the government failed to make any announcement in this regard.
