Guntur: YSRCP president and Leader of the Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's indefinite fast entered the third day in Guntur.

He believes that the people will teach parties which betrayed their interest a lesson sooner than later.

Q: What has led to the CM and Venkaiah Naidu backtrack on special status?

A: N Chandrababu Naidu is trying to confuse people by mixing up both 'Special Status' and 'Special Packages' which are promised to the State, as part of his strategy to dilute the former.

He is projecting the benefits of special packages and deceiving people claiming that Centre is giving much more than special status and downplaying the crucial 'special status' issue which is the panacea for the ills dogging the State.

The Central packages include Polavaram project, financial assistance to capital building, backward areas development and a host of Central institutions that would be making their way to the State were part of the special packages under the 2014 AP Reorganisation Act.

The CM is actually quantifying the benefits of Central packages and projecting them as special assistance granted to the State which is not true.

Nevertheless, since the special category status was announced on the floor of the house by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and also approved by the Union Cabinet, it has to be accorded.

Q: Why AP Chief Minister changed his tune?

A: Babu changed his stance ever since the infamous exposure of 'cash-for-vote’ scam by the media. He had a tacit understanding with the Centre under which he should be saved from the repercussions of the scam and in return, he would not demand special status anymore.
