Hyderabad: Who should put up a candidate in the Warangal bypolls, the BJP or the TDP this has been the million dollar question which could not be resolved so far. While the BJP wanted the TDP to field a candidate since it has strong cadre in Warangal, the TDP asked BJP to contest the seat saying that the BJP candidate had secured half the votes by which Kadiyam Srihari of TRS had won.

This issue still remains a contentious one and in the process, both the parties are yet to come out with a common candidate. Even a meeting of BJP leaders, held at the residence of Union Minister of State for labour Bandaru Dattatreya on Thursday, failed to arrive at a decision on the choice of the candidate.

The TDP initially showed interest to contest the seat since the party floor leader in State Assembly E Dayakar Rao holds considerable influence in good number of assembly constituencies under Warangal Lok Sabha. However, he is learnt to have pleaded with the party leadership to leave the seat to BJP as he does not want to get a bad name of losing the election.

Hence, he made it clear to the BJP that his party would support any candidate chosen by the BJP. He also suggested the line of campaign that if the BJP candidate wins, he would be taken into the Union Cabinet. However, the BJP is finding it difficult to choose an effective candidate.

The names of P Devaiah, V Jaipal and Dr Rajamouli are being considered as the suitable candidates from BJP. In the meantime, the Jana Sena Party leader Pawan Kalyan is learnt to have decided to campaign for the BJP-TDP candidate.
