“Why the YSR Congress Party president, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, is silent so far in mounting pressure on the State government with regard to formation of the Tribal Advisory Council, which is mandatory to ratify GOs to be implemented in scheduled areas as per the Fifth Schedule of the Indian Constitution,” questioned MLC M V S Sarma.

Visakhapatnam: “Why the YSR Congress Party president, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, is silent so far in mounting pressure on the State government with regard to formation of the Tribal Advisory Council, which is mandatory to ratify GOs to be implemented in scheduled areas as per the Fifth Schedule of the Indian Constitution,” questioned MLC M V S Sarma.

Sarma here on Sunday told reporters that mega protests and resignations would not help in protecting tribal rights. “The YSRCP has a strength of six Girijan MLAs of the total seven.
Even in the formation of the Tribal Advisory Council, it will have a lion’s share of MLAs to vehemently oppose the bauxite mining,” the MLC said.
He appealed to Jaganmohan Reddy to put pressure on the government for the formation of the Council, the only tool to oppose the mining operation and to prove his loyalty towards the welfare of tribal people.
Alleging that the Chief Minister had no Constitutional powers to say that the mining will not be stopped, he found fault with the DGP’s remarks of deploying huge police force, if the government goes ahead with the mining. “We are bringing the serious issue to the notice of the leaders including Brinda Kharat of All India Girijana Hakkula Vedica who are likely to meet the President shortly appealing him not to accord his consent to the mining GO,” he said.
