Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday inaugurated 396 two bedroom houses in IDH Colony at New Bhoiguda in Hyderabad. The double bedroom houses spread over 6.10 acres have 33 blocks (in G+2 pattern) with an estimated cost of Rs 42.80 crore under Scheduled Castes Sub-Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP).
Speaking on the occasion, Chandrashekar Rao said the modernised two bedroom houses had been provided with the best infrastructure and it unveiled a new chapter in the history of Telangana. The Chief Minister said even Governor E S L Narasimhan who had visited these houses was awestruck and said that even he would like to have one such flat. The double bedroom houses in IDH colony would be a role model for all further constructions under welfare schemes in the country, he said.
Chandrashekar Rao further stated that such houses would be constructed across Telangana in one year. The government was ready to construct about 60,000 two bedroom houses for poor with an estimated cost of Rs 4, 000 crore this year, he said and added that it would construct 400 two bedroom houses in every Assembly constituency across the State with financial assistance from Housing & Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).
After distributing the double bedroom houses to the beneficiaries, Chandrashekar Rao later had lunch organised by the colony residents. Hailing the Telangana government regarding IDH colony, Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya said that Centre would support the State to make Hyderabad, Warangal, Siddipet and Ramagundam as slum free cities. He added that the Centre had also released about Rs 680 crore for the purpose. He added that the Centre had released Rs 966 crore to the State when it required only Rs 908 crore for initiating the welfare schemes.
Ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav, T Padma Rao, P Mahender Reddy, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and others participated in the inauguration programme.
Meanwhile, the State government has spent about Rs 37.54 crore for construction of the houses and Rs 5.25 crore for
their infrastructure. The unit cost of each double bedroom house was about Rs 9.3 lakh (Rs 7.90 for housing and 1.33 for
infrastructure).
The in-situ beneficiaries are provided with title deeds. The majority of beneficiaries are 276 from Scheduled Castes, 31 from Scheduled Tribes, 79 Backward Castes/Other Castes and Minorities. The plinth area of each dwelling unit is about 580 sq ft with a living room, 2 bed rooms, kitchen and a bathroom.
