Andhra Pradesh Senior Inter-District Volleyball Championship for Men and Women kicked off in Rajahmundry at Dr Parimi Ramachandra Rao memorial floodlight volleyball courts at Government Arts College on Thursday.

AP Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister N Chainarajappa declared the championship open. Both men’s and women’s teams from all the 13 districts will take part in the tourney. Players selected here in the tournament will take part in the National championship to be held in Benguluru from 2nd January to 11th January, 2016.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chinarajappa assured the volleyball fraternity that he would make efforts to allocate more funds for the volleyball as the sport is lagging behind due to lack funds and facilities. He called upon the players to inculcate discipline and punctuality to excel in the sport as well as in life.

Stating that winning and losing does not matter, he advised the players to perform well and try for the selections. He informed that the government has sanctioned stadiums in Tuni and Gollavilli in East Godavari district and assured that he would make efforts to build a stadium in Rajahmundry. He called upon the parents to encourage children to persue sports.

Secretary AP Volleyball Association A Ramana Rao, ZP chairman Namana Rambabu, Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai, MLA Pendurthi Venkatesh, TDO official spokesperson Ganni Krishna and Tournament organizing secretary Parimi Srinivas were present on the occasion.
