Operation Black Film re-enforced in Hyderabad

1,000 penalty for using tinted glasses

Hyderabad: Observing that thousands of car users in the city were neglecting orders of the Supreme Court in removing sun control films, Hyderabad Traffic Police has decided to start an enforcement drive against such vehicles.

The traffic police have identified that some motorists were willfully violating the rules. This includes vehicles coming from outside the city. The police also observed that some of the commuters have removed dark colour films and are using lighter shades of it.

If tinted films are not removed, a penalty of Rs 1,000 would be imposed on the owners under the Motor Vehicles Act.

“The instructions of the Apex Court were clear that no film of any VLT (Visual Light Transmission) would be permitted on the wind screen and on window glasses, except for people falling under security categorisation of Z and Z+ categories,” said Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Jitender.

Car decors and accessory shop owners were called and warned about illegally fixing black films by duping car owners that the films are ‘RTA approved’ and if the violation was observed again, stern action would be taken against them as per the City Police Act.

The additional commissioner added, “Some car owners were using sun shades and curtains and some high-end cars were having a facility to draw up black screens. Since the spirit of the Supreme Court order is that there should be clear visibility inside the vehicle, any material obstructing that visibility is illegal.”

“It was also clarified that RTC, school, private and tourist buses, which have such films pasted on their window screen should get them removed immediately,” Jitender said.
