Respected Sir,

I am a senior citizen of this country, a small mortal and an ordinary tax payer. I love my country. And so do all my family members. We are very fond and respectful of our armed forces for we know we are safe in our country for our armed forces are there to protect and safeguard us.
We know that we never had nor we participated in any war with any country in the last 45 years (since 1971) neither we are longing or itching for any. And we also know none of the now serving armed forces personnel, including the present Army General or the Air Chief Marshall or the Navy Admiral, has participated in any war since they all joined the services post 1971 war.

We think that the nation’s army should be strong enough to deter the enemies to think of waging a war with India or even instigating one. So we have been paying our taxes religiously to the government and maintaining large battalions of armed forces at a huge cost to assure us the security.
We always wanted our armed forces to be strong enough and fighting fit though we do not want to have a war with any country for we know a war inflicts huge damage to both sides in terms of life and property.

We know our armed forces are not technologically the best equipped, nor we have some of the best and latest warfare equipment which some of the developed or advanced countries have.
But we know, or at least have been thinking all along till now, that our armed forces are well trained, physically and also psychologically fit to take on any of our enemies at the shortest notice if they even dare to think of attacking us. We call them our Indian Bravehearts. We used to treat our armed forces personnel as our heroes.

But some of your recent actions in Secunderabad Cantonment area in blocking and closing certain public roads from public use are raising serious concerns amongst us ordinary citizens.
More particularly, when the armed forces officials raise serious security concerns and threat perceptions from ordinary and simple citizens, and quote this as the main reason for closing the public roads, that too in a peace zone like Secunderabad Cantonment, where the citizens are by and large fairly well educated, well informed, mostly from the employee & middle class, peace loving and law abiding people.

You now need to honestly answer the following simple questions from us, the ordinary and simple citizens:

1. Is the threat perception for real or imagined? Or is it a created one by some of the crooked minds to have their way.

2. Is the threat perception so great or serious that our army personnel cannot deal with it?

3. Is the security in the Indian army so weak that anyone or everyone can cause or inflict any damage to our military installations?

4. Have we been living in a false premise or make believe illusion world so far while our armed forces personnel are not really physically and psychologically fit to deal with even minor intrusions or security threats?

5. Can we ordinary citizens feel secure with such a weak armed forces personnel to protect us and assure us of our safety & security?

6. Or is it the problem with the quality of leadership at the higher level in armed forces who are trying to demoralize the forces at the ground and grass root level?

7. Or is it the attitude of some of the higher level armed forces officials where they think that civilians are the inferior beings and can be used just to pay taxes so that the army officials can live in the expanse of colonial comfort and at the expense of the common man?

8. Is not the army losing its respect and trust from among the ordinary citizens, and also from the world outside, because of some of the senseless actions of some of the army officials at the highest level?

We have been living peacefully and harmoniously with the armed forces personnel amongst us, both serving and retired, and suddenly we find there are some reservations and feeling of distrust that is creeping in on both the sides straining the relationship that we enjoyed all along.
And this includes our very own family members and close relatives and friends who have served the armed forces and some who are still in service. And we want to enjoy the pure and uncompromising relationship we enjoyed all along and forever.
