Hyderabad: Vice-Chairman of Planning Board S Niranjan Reddy has requested the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to take up the project providing for linkage from Mumbai Port to the existing and upcoming ports on eastern side in Andhra Pradesh via Telangana, on the lines of the proposed linkage of Mumbai Port to Gopalpur Port in Odisha.

In a letter to the Union Minister, Niranjan Reddy said this linkage would shorten the distance between the strategic locations and minimise the usage of expensive fuel which would indirectly save the foreign exchange. Further, it promotes the local producers/produce exports and also meets the local enterprises requirements through imports.

This will help in development of the area linked by this project including reducing transport time. By this, the perishables may be moved to every nook and corner of the country and consumption by the people will be improved and it helps increase indirectly health consciousness of the people which strengthens the nation.

It improves the employability in service sector as well as manufacturing sector and all other sectors like agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, dairy, minerals and forest. Sholapur is famous for cotton mills, power looms and spinning mills, Gulbarga district is famous for cement industries and Tandur (Ranga Reddy district-Telangana State) is famous for cement industries. Mahabubnagar district is the seed hub of Telangana.

Vast irrigated areas under the Krishna Basin will enhance the agriculture produce that can be exported. The unique added advantage is the International airport at Shamshabad which is 10 minutes drive from Mahabubnagar district borders adjacent to NH 44.

There are bulk drug and pharma units in the district and one exclusive Pharma SEZ is on NH 44 at Jadcherla which requires export and import facilities. “The linkage from Mumbai to Pune (200 km) and Pune to Sholapur (237 km) is already four-lane road, and the distance of four-lane road from Sholapur to Vinukonda (Andhra Pradesh) will be 493 km,” he pointed out.
