Digital literacy programme to empower SHG members

The programme is aimed at creating basic knowledge in computer operations among 7.56 lakh SHG women.
The district administration has taken up an awareness programme on digital literacy, with an aim to impart basic computer skills to one and all in West Godavari district by March 2016, said Collector Katamneni Bhaskar. He inaugurated the Digital Literacy training workshop to Self-Help Group (SHG) members held at TTDC building in Satrampadu village on Monday. Speaking at the inaugural meeting, the Collector said the administration has taken up the task to provide computer knowledge to 7.56 lakh SHG women free of cost.
The digital literacy programme will be useful to one and all to gain basic knowledge in computer operations, he said. The Collector said the the trained resource persons will impart training to SHG women in computer usage during the five-day digital literacy training programme. The district administration has drafted a comprehensive action plan to impart training to 6.56 lakh rural and one lakh urban DWCRA women in computers, he added.
District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) project director K Srinivaslu said that the digital literacy programme was started by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in November.
In the first phase, Chittoor, Krishna, Visakhapatnam, Kadapa and West Godavari districts have been selected for computer training. As part of this, training in digital literacy has been taken up in the district, the Collector said.
