Bhimavaram: President of Andhra Pradesh Koulu Rythu Sangham (APKRS) Nagaboyina Ranga Rao alleged that the lifting of Godavari water through Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS) against the GO has lead to water scarcity to Godavari delta.

He along with district committee president Juttiga Narasimha Murthy took part in a district committee meeting held at CITU office here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Ranga Rao charged that the cultivation in 10 lakh acres in both Godavari districts is in crisis due to the State government’s policies. “Never before in the history, there was water crisis in the delta,” he added.

“The State government in its GO 100 stated that during flood season the water from Godavari River will be lifted through Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS) only after the water level reaches 14 meters. However, the government has violated the GO and lifted water from the river even the level is below 14 meters,” he alleged. He demanded the government to supply irrigation water to Godavari ayacut to save the farmers and tenant farmers. The district committee Secretary K Srinivas said that due to unavailability of water, nurseries and the standing crop has been withering in the delta.

“The water released is nowhere enough to meet the needs of paddy cultivation,” he added. Srinivas demanded the officials to increase the water supply to 6,150 cusecs.
