Warangal: A final year MBBS student has allegedly committed suicide at her hostel room in Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) here on Tuesday. The deceased M S Mounika Yadav, who hails from Shaikpet Dargah area in Hyderabad, was found dead hanging from a ceiling fan in her room number 19 in Dr Lakireddy Girls’ Hostel on the KMC campus on Tuesday morning.

The incident came to light when the washer man of the hostel did not evince any reply from her after repeated calls and knockings at the door of her room. Suspecting some foul play, hostel employees broke open the windows and found Mounika hanging from the ceiling fan. The hostel staff and students broke open the door and informed the college principal Dr A Vidyasagar about the incident.

The principal, who rushed to the hostel room, called the Mattewada police. Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu, Assistant Commissioner SM Surendranath and Clues Team rushed to the spot and inspected the hostel. Speaking to the press persons, the commissioner said they were probing whether she had any personal problems.

He opined that the deceased student could have been under stress as her classmates said the examinations were scheduled in 20 days. Her mobile phone was locked and after unlocking it, further information could be gathered. It was said that the deceased student, hailing from a middle class family, was also worried over the house-surgeonship as only 120 students could be selected as house surgeons against 150 in the KMC with government stipend.

The deceased student’s father Subhash Yadav, a retired RTC employee and her mother Nirmala have arrived here after receiving information from the college authorities. Heartrending scenes were seen at MGM Hospital as her parents and family members wept inconsolably at the death of Mounika. The body was handed over to her parents after post-mortem at the MGMH. Mattewada police booked a case and started the investigation.
