American Oncology body drives breast cancer awearness

American Oncology Institute (AOI), a Hyderabad-based chain of cancer hospitals founded by a team of leading oncologists at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre in USA, today launched BeatingCancerInWomen– a public health awareness initiative on building awareness about cancer in women, its prevention and early detection.The initiative focusses on building awareness about cancer in women, its prevention and how early detection of cancer may lead to successful survival. B Udaya Lakshmi, IAS, (Dept. Backward Classes Welfare), Secretary Govt of AP and Chennupati Vidhya, president, Vasavya Mahila Mandali launched the awareness initiative at a press launch in Vijayawada.
Speaking on this occasion,Udaya Lakshmi said, due to lack of awareness, breast cancer cases are complicating and suggested to conduct awareness programmes and advised the women get themselves checked. She said, breast cancer cases are more in the developed countries due to changes in life style and added that smoking and drinking enhances risk of breast cancer.
Founder of American Oncology Institute, Joseph A Nicholas, said, they are giving the same treatment to the patients suffering from breast cancer in US. He urged the patients avail medical services available in their hospital. He also said that the doctors in Vijayawada are discussing about difficult cases with the doctors in US.
Former MP Chennupati Vidya stressed on need to involve NGOs in the breast cancer awareness programmes. She advised to create awareness through short films and conduct screening camps.
Later, they released posters stating that ' Beating Cancer in Women'.
