Kakinada: Awareness is important on AIDS, said Kakinada Mayor Sunkara Pavani here on Friday.

She participated as a chief guest at a rally on awareness of AIDS which was organised by the District Additional Medical and Health Department. After flagging off the awareness rally, Mayor said that AIDS was not an epidemic and it enters body through the virus. She further informed that the government was taking every precaution to control the spread of AIDS.

She said that awareness was more important to understand AIDS. She also said that the slogan for this year’s World AIDS Day is ‘My Health is My Right.’
Later, the Mayor administered an oath to college students, employees and public that they were determined to understand AIDS and would not surrender to the weaknesses that could lead to the spread of AIDS.

The Mayor urged all pregnant women to undergo necessary examinations to know about AIDS. All the students, employees and the gathered public formed a human chain and raised slogans ‘My Health is My Right’.

District Medical and Health Officer Dr Chenchayya, Additional DM and HO and District Aids Control Officer M Pavan Kumar, Nursing and PR College students participated.
