Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar has directed the APEPDCL officials not to disconnect the power supply to any agriculture pump set despite the farmers’ failure to pay energy charges during the present rabi season.

The Collector conducted a review meeting with Panchayati officials on tax collection, E-Seva, Mee-Seva and other issues at the Collectorate here on Friday.Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said that the officials should ensure that water be supplied to the present rabi crop appealed to the electricity officials to avoid disconnection of the pump sets.

He said that the rabi crop would yield Rs 2,000 crore income whereas the power charges arrears may not exceed Rs 10 lakh in the district.“The MEE-Seva centres in 909 Grama Panchayats with modern technology and equipment will collect the power bills,” he added.
The Collector warned the Panchayat officials of delay in collection of the taxes in the current fiscal year.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the poor collection of taxes. “During the last couple of years, an 80 to 90 percent progress was recorded and now it is just 20 to 30 percent collections,” he informed.

He directed the District Panchayat officers to issue show cause notice to the extension officers of Panchayat Raj Department (EOPRD) for failing in the targeted weekly tax collections except in Nidamarru mandal. He directed the Panchayat officials and secretaries to be vigilant on cockfights in villages and inform the concerned police stations in writing.

District Panchyati Officer MV Ramana, APEPDCL SE Ch Satyanarayana Reddy, Divisional Panchayat officers Ammaji, Chinna Rao, Ramakrishna and Mallikharjun participated in the meeting.
