Vijayawada: Railway and bus stations are flooded with passengers on New Year’s Eve. The commuters found it difficult to get berths in trains and seats in busses.

Special arrangements were made by the RTC to make the passengers reach their destinations. About 85 special buses were arranged in the wake of heavy rush, said the Vijayawada RTC Regional Manager T V Rama Rao. He said 15 semi-luxury, 13 ultra-deluxe, 14 express, 4 AC and 30 ordinary buses were arranged.

Most of the buses were arranged for long distance travellers such as Hyderabad, Bangalore, Tirupati, Visakahpatnam and Chennai.

In spite of the special buses, heavy rush is seen at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station. Heavy crowd was also seen at the Vijayawada railway station on the eve of New Year which falls on weekend.

Trains passing through Vijayawada were running packed to their capacity with no room for the passengers. Stampede like situations occurred as passengers tried to enter the general compartment that was jam-packed.
