Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) vice-chairman and managing director, Dr N Bangara Raju on Wednesday said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would attend and watch an exhibition match of the Andhra Pradesh Junior Ball Badminton team players at Vizianagaram on January 5. He said the CM would attend the Janmabhoomi Maa Vooru programme and watch the match.

Vijayawada: Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) vice-chairman and managing director, Dr N Bangara Raju on Wednesday said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would attend and watch an exhibition match of the Andhra Pradesh Junior Ball Badminton team players at Vizianagaram on January 5. He said the CM would attend the Janmabhoomi Maa Vooru programme and watch the match.

The AP junior team had previously won the recently held national championship in Chandigarh. Bangara Raju on Wednesday felicitated the team players and coaches at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium and handed over Rs 1 lakh to the junior boys’ champion team and Rs 50,000 to junior girls’ runner up team.

Speaking on the occasion, Bangara Raju said the CM gave an assurance to boost ball badminton. Regarding junior national ball badminton championship, he said, “The AP boys’ team won the championship for the second consecutive year.”

He further said the SAAP was ready to provide ball badminton courts even in rural areas. “SAAP is already given orders to all the district sports development officers (DSDO) to set up ball badminton courts wherever necessary. There is no lack of funds for such games in the state,” he added.

Andhra Pradesh Ball Badminton Association secretary R Venkata Rao, SAAP Officer on Special Duty (OSD) P Rama Krishna and others participated. Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Ball Badminton Association selected the men and women’s teams to participate in the 63rd Senior National Ball Badminton to be held at Gurgaon, Haryana from January 5 to 9.
