The traffic police in Prakasam district arrested 138 people for drunken driving and presented them before the mobile court in Ongole on Monday. The court imposed fine of Rs 2100 each and imprisoned from 2 to 15 days depending on the amount of alcohol recorded in their breath at the time of driving.

The court imposed fine of Rs 2100 each and imprisoned from 2 to 15 days depending on the amount of alcohol recorded in their breath at the time of driving.

The Ongole traffic DSP K Venugopala Rao offered counselling to the 138 people involved in the drunken driving at the Ongole sub jail before they sent for imprisonment. He explained them about the value of life, reasons for road accidents and the loss to the victims involved in them and their family members.

He also made the people understand the importance of following traffic rules and the impact of violation on them and the fellow commuters on road using multimedia tools. The DSP made the people take oath for not involving in drunken driving again, before leaving from the counselling session.
