Rajamahendravaram: International Yoga Day was celebrated by various private and government offices, schools etc in the city here on Thursday.

Participating in International Yoga Day, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Rajahmundry Asset executive director DMR Sekhar said that yoga was a powerful tool to reavitalize and heal oneself and also helps to beat stress and strain.

Good physique also be maintained through yoga which was an ancient art. Everyone should spare some time to practice yoga everyday and underlined the need to inculcate the habit of practicising yoga. OOMS president Durga Bhavani recited opening prayer and concluded with Sankalpa pledge.

Participating in the celebrations at Subramanya Mydanam, city MLA Dr Akula Satyanarayana said UN General Assembly declared June 21 as International Yoga Day on the request of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Yoga was in practice for thousands of years in the country, which was having many benefits.
Yoga should be made as part of curriculum which was the need of the hour. Modi also practices yoga everyday, he informed.

Parents and teaching fraternity should tell the children about the importance and benefits of yoga to the children, he added.
