Japanese design for Amaravati

Vijayawada: The jury members appointed for Amaravati capital design selected the design submitted by Maki and Associates of Japan. Announcing this at a press conference on Friday the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that three architects participated in the final competition including Richard Rogers of Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners, UK, BV Doshi of Vastu Shilpa consultants, India and Fumihiko Maki of Maki and associates, Japan.
The Chief Minister said that the jury members including Erwin Viray (Japan), Suha Ozkan (Turkey), Rajeev Seethi, KT Ravindran, Kesav Varma led by chairman Christopher Benninger of India selected the design submitted by Maki Associates of Japan. Naidu said that two iconic buildings including High Court and Secretariat would be developed in Amaravati. He said that it is people’s capital and the design would be placed in public domain for debate and suggestions from people.
He said that the best designs from two other architects also would be taken into consideration to develop Amaravati as world class capital. He said that the bridge leading to capital would be named after Kuchipudi reflecting the culture of Andhra Pradesh and Indian traditions and culture would be taken into consideration for the development of the capital.
He said that the construction of the capital would start in three months. Thanking the farmers for offering 34,000 acres of land for capital development, the Chief Minister said that they are trying to rewrite new legacy with development of Amaravati. He said that the new capital would be developed as an economic and financial hub to provide employment opportunities to youth.
The Chief Minister said when he visited capital region to inspect the progress of Secretariat works he realised that March 25 was a historic day. He said he noticed a monument where the inscription says that Rani Rudrama Devi (Kakatiya dynasty) coronation day is March 25. Referring to the coincidence, he said that Amaravati design was also finalised by the jury on the same day.
