Eluru: State CITU general secretary M A Gafoor on Sunday demanded that the State government announce wage revision for workers in 65 scheduled industries which should be done for every five years. He also called for implementation of minimum wage for those working under anganwadi, ASHA, midday meals, IKP animators and other schemes.

Speaking to press persons on the sidelines of BSNL employees’ union meeting here on Sunday, the former MLA alleged that the TDP government was pursuing anti-worker policies and had hence not taken up the wage revision for workeers in private industries even after five years.

He further accused the government of pandering to wishes of corporates and was not announcing dearness allowance, corresponding to rise in prices. He announced that CITU and affiliated trade unions would go on a general strike on September 2 to exert pressure on both Union and State governments to fix Rs 18, 000 as minimum wage. Meanwhile, BSNL employees’ union general secretary P Abhimanyu appealed to the employees to vote in favour of the union to protect their rights and the organisation.

The seventh union verification of BSNL organisation would be held on May 10.
