President to launch AP FiberGrid tomorrow
The ambition of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to provide rapid connectivity to every household and enterprises at a nominal price is going to become a reality as President Ram Nath Kovind will launch the AP Fiber Grid project here on December 27.

AP Fiber Grid has been set up with a high-speed aerial Optical Fiber Cable spreading across over 23,800 km across the 13 districts in the State and connecting 2,464 substations.
The fiber provides triple play services – television (350+ channels), telephone (rental free) and internet (15 Mbps and 100 Mbps) - to households and enterprises at a monthly affordable price of Rs 149 and Rs 999 respectively.
The State government created Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Limited (APSFL) as the nodal agency for undertaking the works of AP Fiber Grid. Around 1.3 crore households, 50,000 schools, 10,000 government offices, 5,000 public health centres will be connected under the project. It has become the first TELCO in the State government sector with the largest greenfield optical fiber network infrastructure.
APSFL Chief Financial Officer Velpuri Venu told The Hans India that 1,10,367 households and 3,246 enterprise connections have been completed across 13 districts so far.
The services that will be offered under fiber grid are triple play services, value added services such as video conferencing, E-commerce, movies and content on demand and a State-wide network connecting more than 20,000 cameras, 16 Integrated district command control and data centers, state-wide Wi-Fi linking, state wide area network (SWAN) connecting government offices, powering digital classrooms in government Schools, delivering telemedicine at public health centers, powering smart cities and connecting mobile towers.
State Data Center is also being set up to provide fundamental computer and storage infrastructure for various eGovernance programmes. Real Time Governance using drones is another part of this project to expand the utilisation of drones in various sectors such as police, mining, municipal administration, agriculture, disaster management, etc. for monitoring, capturing images and videos at high resolution.
Fiber Grid phase-2: As part of BharatNet - phase 2, APSFL proposes to connect all the 12,927 gram panchayats in AP with 670 block level PoPs (point of presence) being planned at BSNL exchanges and the project is targeted for March, 2019 under fiber grid phase-2.
The State government signed MoU with Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) and BBNL on November 13 for Phase-2 implementation. Department of Telecommunication approved the detailed project report submitted by the State government and a letter received from DoT approving Rs 851.23 crore.
