Srikakulam: The State government is neglecting demands of evacuees of Vamsadhara reservoir project, charged MLC MVS Sarma. He along with CPM State executive member, Ch Tejeswara Rao and district secretary toured the project site on Saturday and intereacted with evacuees.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, the MLC said that the government is paying a very minimal amount as compensation to the displaced when compared to that of Pattiseema, Pulichinthala and Polavaram projects under rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) package.

“Under the Pattiseema project Rs 30 lakh paid to each acre land as compensation as per the new land acquisition act but in Vamsadhara, it is only Rs 1.5 lakh per acre. Under Pulichinthala and Polavaram projects Rs 7 lakh paid to youth, who attained 18 years of age by considering them as a family but there is no such proposal here.

In Pattiseema, Polavaram and Pulichinthala Rs 3.15 lakh paid to each person, who lost their houses, here it is only Rs 53,000,” he stated. The trio alleged that government is using police force against those, who are demanding better package. Meanwhile, police arrested CPM Gangarapu Simhachalam on Saturday for protesting at project site along with displaced people.
