Kakinada: Andhra Pradesh is highly potential for solar power generation and out of 100GW solar power target by 2022, this coastal State alone is capable to produce 38GW, said senior research scientist of the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) Swati Agariya.

Speaking to The Hans India, Agariya disclosed details of the targets fixed by the Central government for developing solar energy on massive scale under the ‘Surya Mitra’ scheme.

She said that the NISE is involved in demonstration, standardisation, interactive research, training and testing solar technologies and systems. “It is an effective interface between government and institutions, industry and user organisations for development and widespread utilisation of solar energy. As part of this programme, special training is imparted to make rural youth skilled at large scale with ITI and diploma qualifications,” she added.

Agariya said that in order to achieve the target, the concerned authorities have designed a training programme for 90 days for 6.5 lakh people across the country. In the State, the selected areas are Kakinada, Guntur, ITDA Chintur and Rampachodavaram and 8 other places.

“NISE has developed mobile application called Surya Mitra, available at Playstore. Though this app, solar services like installation, repair and maintenance of solar photo voltaic can be availed. Customers can also register complaints and the nearest Surya Mitra would extend services,” she added.

As part of this training and placements programme, Agariya distributed training certificates to 30 trained personnel under Surya Mitra at TTDC centre, Samalkot about 16 kilometers away from here. The 90-days programme was organised under the supervision of NREDCAP.
