Addressing the media at Matsakara Bhavan here on Sunday, Chittibabu demanded pension for fishermen who crossed 50 years on the lines of government of Puducherry, which is paying Rs 2,000 a month as pension, a supply of diesel to fishing vessels on 50 per cent subsidy and also supply of fishing vessels on 50 per cent subsidy.

He alleged that the State government has been turning a blind eye to the welfare of fishermen ignoring the fact that marine products are earning Rs 16,000 crore revenue for the government annually. He termed the government doing away with the Fisheries Corporation as atrocious while sanctioning corporations to other communities.

Matsakara ST Sadhana Samithi district president Malladi Hanumantha Rao expressed concern at the extinction of some marine species because of the pollution by the oil exploration companies.
