Tirupati: Telugu Desam Party on Saturday urged the central government to confer the country’s highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, on its founder and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N T Rama Rao. Moving the resolution on the birth anniversary of the late leader, NTR’s son and MLA, N Balakrishna said that NTR was the most deserving person for the highest honour.

NTR had created history in Indian politics. He served people by launching innovative schemes. "It is the desire of not just Telugu people but all Indians that he be given Bharat Ratna,” Balakrishna said. Calling NTR as ‘Yugapurushudu’, Balakrishna said, “NTR is like a god to the Telugu people.... We will make untiring efforts till he is conferred with Bharat Ratna."

Speaking on the resolution, Naidu said, "NTR’s name will remain forever in the history of Telugu people. He enjoyed unparalleled popularity in film world and in politics.” He said that NTR had taught him discipline and to work tirelessly for the welfare of people.

The Chief Minister said Mahanadu makes a strong appeal to the Centre to consider NTR’s name for Bharata Ratna and expressed hope that it would confer the honour on him soon. He called upon the party workers to recall the great work of NTR every day as they wake up and resolve to work for his ideals.
