Visakhapatnam: A fortnight after being subjected to suffering in stranded passenger ship mv Swaraj Dweep, held up due to Roanu cyclone, people bound for Andaman and Nicobar Islands are now struggling to get a berth in the bunker class. The passenger ship mv Nicobar is set to sail from Visakhapatnam on June 7, and ticket counter has opened on Thursday morning.

On Friday morning, the agents of the ship AV Bhanojirow, Garuda Pattabhiramayya and Co announced the closure of the ticket counter saying that all tickets were sold out. Scores of people were seen at the counter on Friday morning waiting with a faint hope of getting tickets. But their efforts are coming to a naught.

Sensing opportunity, the black marketeers are fleecing desperate passengers by demanding Rs 3,000 for Rs 950 bunker class ticket. The islanders are charged Rs 950 for bunker class and non-islanders Rs 2,500. Around 1500 people every month travel to Port Blair from Vizag.

When contacted, the agents were unavailable for comment, and the port authorities said they were not responsible for the sale of tickets. Passengers blamed the authorities for not streamlining the system.
