Rajamahendravaram: Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham is continuing his fast in Government General Hospital here for second day on Friday and refused to take treatment. In fact, Mudragada is sitting on a chair fearing that doctors might start treating him if he rests on a bed.

Family members of Mudragada including his wife, son and daughter are also fasting along with him in the hospital. Rajamahendravaram City MLA Dr Akula Satyannarayana visited Mudragada and urged him cooperate with the doctors along with his family members. But, Mudragada did not heed to the appeal made by the MLA. Mudragada has diabetes and BP problems and police may foil fast in couple of days as his health may deteriorate.

At midnight on Thursday, former Amalapuram MP G V Harsha Kumar came to visit government hospital to meet Mudragada but the police sent him back citing that Kapu leader was sleeping. Speaking to media on the occasion, Harsha Kumar faulted the government for the way it has treating Mudragada who was on fast at his residence and questioned on what is wrong in fighting for the reservations or Kapus which were promised by the government before elections.

He criticised the government for forcibly foiling the fast in undemocratic manner and added that the TDP would pay dearly for its tyrannical rule. Meanwhile, police are taking leaders into custody as precautionary measure here and other parts of the district. III Town police arrested Congress leader Ramineedu Murali and Harsha Kumar’s son G V Sri Raj on Friday.

East Godavari district Congress president Kandula Durgesh visited arrested leaders in police station. Speaking on the occasion, Durgesh said that Kapus are agitating for the reservations which were included in the manifesto and added that the situation is becoming more complicated due to arrests being made by the government. He observed that the problem rose due to the delay being made by the government in implementing reservations.
