Promote health schemes, MP urges teachers
Speaking on the occasion, the MP said that the government had allocated one-third of the State budget to education and health sectors. He stressed on the role of teachers in promoting health schemes meant for mothers and children belonging to poor and weaker sections of the society.
Chittoor: MP Dr N Sivaprasad distributed hearing-aids free of cost to hearing-impaired students at a function organised in the Government General Hospital (GGH) premises here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the MP said that the government had allocated one-third of the State budget to education and health sectors. He stressed on the role of teachers in promoting health schemes meant for mothers and children belonging to poor and weaker sections of the society.
Sivaprasad stated that the government had hiked the salaries of Anganwadi workers and helpers to ensure health services are reached to mothers and children in remote places of the district.
The TDP leader said that the government is committed to provide pensions to physically-challenged. “Monthly pension to physically-challenged enhanced to Rs 1,500 and directly credited into the bank accounts of beneficiaries,” he added.
The MP gave a call to doctors to provide free treatment to patients from the poor and weaker sections of the community visiting the GGH.
He asked medical officers working at Primary Health Centres to visit government schools and social welfare hostels and conduct health check-up camps for students on a regular basis.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Project Officer S Lakshmi said that a special drive was taken up to identify hearing-impaired students in government schools.
She said that the SSA has appointed the physiotherapists in schools to provide services to physically-challenged. District Coordinator of Hospitals Dr Saralamma and others were present.
