Over 31,000 security staff to be deployed
The DGP briefed the media on security measures being taken up for pushkaralu at Pandit Nehru Bus station complex here on Tuesday.As many as 400 CC cameras have already started functioning and another 1,000 cameras would be ready in a couple of days for the surveillance along the bathing ghats and other important places, the DGP said.
Vijayawada: Director General of Police N Sambasiva Rao said 31,400 police personnel had been drafted for Krishna Pushkaralu security and the department was fully geared up for the 12-day event beginning on August 12.

Thirty IPS officers will supervise the police staff and the department is taking the help of police forces of Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Odisha States for the security arrangements. About 24,000 police personnel will be deployed in Krishna district and the remaining 7,400 in Guntur and Kurnool districts,” he added.
Stating that majority pilgrims would come to Vijayawada due to road and rail connectivity to the city, the DGP said barricading would be strictly implemented at the bathing ghats and the police would check rush towards the ghats in order to prevent stampede.
Sambasiva Rao said the police were using 20 drones for the surveillance at the bathing ghats and other important places and pilgrims rush at ghats would be monitored through the Central Command Control room arranged at the AR Grounds. Equipment worth Rs 20 crore has been installed at the Central Command Control Room, he added.
The DGP said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was insisting on zero-incident Pushkaralu through all precautions. He said the Prakasam barrage would be closed and Kanakadurgamma Varadhi would be kept open for the movement of vehicles.
Warning pilgrims against parking vehicles on highways and other roads in Vijayawada city and surrounding areas, he said they would be seized and shifted to other location and drivers would be prosecuted.
All private vehicles should be parked in the identified parking places only. We have identified 65 private parking places in and around Vijayawada, the list of which will be announced in two days,” the DGP said.
Stating that unattended vehicles in the city would be seized and cases would be registered, the DGP appealed to the people, who come to Vijayawada by vehicles to park their vehicles at the hotels, relatives’ houses or at the parking places only.
