Kakinada: The Fisheries department will provide loans under the Mudra scheme to eligible fishermen in East Godavari for their economic upliftment and to make available fresh fish products to consumers at reasonable prices. As part of this initiative, a target of 500 beneficiaries was fixed for the provision of loans under the Mudra scheme, in Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram and Amalapuram.

The fishermen will be provided with ice-boxes for preservation of the fish products and two-wheelers to transport the products to the market, under the scheme. Three-wheelers will also be provided to transport the products to distant markets and outlets established to sell the products. In addition to this, fish-dryers will also be provided to them as the department observed that fish dried in hygienic conditions had good consumer patronage.

Loans will be sanctioned in three categories. Loans up to Rs 50, 000 will be sanctioned in category one, loans from Rs 50, 000- 5 lakh will be sanctioned in category 2 and loans from Rs 5 lakh-10 lakh in category three. East Godavari Fisheries deputy director K Ramateerdam said that in the first phase, 500 individuals would be extended the facility depending on the individual or group needs.
