Eluru witnessed heavy rain for over two hours in the morning, inundating low-lying areas in the city. Powerpet, Ramachandraraopet, Chanakyapuri Colony, Narasimha Raopet and other areas were flooded with rain water bringing the traffic to a stand-still. The water stagnated on the roads causing severe traffic problem. 

Eluru: Heavy rain lashed various parts of West Godavari district on Tuesday, disrupting normal life. Officials switched off all the motors at Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS) to stop supply of water to Polavaram Right Main Canal (PRMC), following rise in flood level at Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada.

Powerpet, Ramachandraraopet, Chanakyapuri Colony, Narasimha Raopet and other areas were flooded with rain water bringing the traffic to a stand-still. The water stagnated on the roads causing severe traffic problem.

The under-bridge in Powerpet area was closed as rain water filled the underpass. Daily life was disrupted in the agency mandals of Polavaram, Buttayagudem, Jeelugumilli, and Jangareddigudem as well.

Yerra Kalva in Jangareddigudem mandal and the Pedrala and Isuka Kalva in Polavaram mandal, are overflowing. The Nakkala kalva rivulet in Buttayagudem mandal was flooded with rain water and flowing into Kovvada rivulet.

Officials had to open 13 gates of Kovvada Reservoir, and release water into River Godavari. Bhimavaram, Tanuku, Tadepalligudem and other areas also witnessed heavy rains.
