As soon as Oleti Subba Reddy declared brain dead, a team of doctors shifted his heart by helicopter to the Police Parade Grounds in Guntur city. The heart was taken to the GGH immediately in ambulance. Doctors team led by Gopala Krishna Gokhale immediately started heart transplant surgery to Heeramati Bai at 6.30
Amaravati: Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) doctors led by cardiothoracic surgeon A Gopala Krishna Gokhale started second heart transplant surgery at the GGH on Tuesday evening. The doctors are transplanting heart of Oleti Subba Reddy (35) who was brain dead in Narayana Hospital in Nellore city to Heeramati Bai (25), who has been undergoing heart treatment at the GGH for some time.
As soon as Oleti Subba Reddy declared brain dead, a team of doctors shifted his heart by helicopter to the Police Parade Grounds in Guntur city. The heart was taken to the GGH immediately in ambulance. Doctors team led by Gopala Krishna Gokhale immediately started heart transplant surgery to Heeramati Bai at 6.30 pm. Heart transplant surgery will take at least eight hours, doctors said.Regional Medical Officer Dr Ramesh said a eight-member doctors team led by AGK Gokhale was performing transplant surgery to the heart patient Heeramati Bai.
As soon as Subba Reddy family members agreed to donate his organs, Dr Gokhale team alerted and immediately started arrangements for performing heart transplant surgery to the Heeramati Bai in the GGH. They made arrangements to shift heart by helicopter to Guntur and doctors made necessary arrangements in the GGH to perform heart transplant surgery.
Earlier, AGK Gokhale performed first heart transplant surgery successfully to Yedukondaluyu who was suffering from heart problem. This was second heart transplant surgery performing in the GGH. Doctors in the GGH performed knee replacement surgery to Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas.
