Atmakur: In an expected development, Kurnool DCC women’s wing president Momin Shabana on Thursday announced her resignation from the party. The party in-charge of the Srisalam constituency, she faxed the resignation letter to APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy.

Speculation is rife that she might join BJP. Her family has been with the Congress for the past 75 years. She told The Hans India over phone that the fate of the Congress in the State is not good and it is unlikely to recover. Shabana said she took the decision to quit for personal reasons in favour of people who have faith in her.

She had contested to the Assembly from the then Atmakur seat (now Srisailam constituency). She served as the AICC member, the director of the Women’s Commission, general secretary of the Mahila Congress and APCC general secretary.

Shabana’s mother-in-law Hussain Saheba, father Jilani, mother Aktharunnisa, elder brother Shazid Basha were local sarpanches. Her family has affinity with the late Indira Gandhi, former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and ex-Union Minister Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy. Hussain Saheba was close to former President Dr Savepalli Radhakrishnan and senior AICC leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.
