Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the National Table Tennis Championship-2016 here at the Port Stadium on Thursday in which about 700 players and 70 coaches from 29 States are participating.Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that Table Tennis Academy will be set up in the State to promote sports activities.

Complimenting the district administration for the successful conduct of International Fleet Review, BRICS Conference and Partnership Summit in the recent past, he said it paved the way to organise more national and international level events here in future. He earlier handed over a cheque for Rs 10 lakh to the secretary of Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and played table tennis with the number one tennis player Monika Batram to mark the inauguration of the championship.

Sports Minister K Atchannaidu said that the government has allocated a sum of Rs 200 crore for sports development and to make AP a hub of sports. The government will develop sports in the State, including remote rural areas by creating necessary infrastructure. Local Ministers Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Lalam Bhavani, MLAs Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, Palla Srinivasa Rao, Collector Praveen Kumar and President of National Table Tennis Association Chaturvedi attended.
