Vijayawada: CPI national secretary K Narayana alleged that the BJP is raking up the Uniform Civil code issue to get political mileage in the Assembly elections to be held in five States including UP, Uttarakhand and Punjab next year. The CPI national leader made this comment while addressing a media conference at the State party office in Vijayawada on Saturday.

He said the BJP wanted to divert the attention of the people from its failures and flaring up issues like Uniform Civil Code and Triple Talaaq. He said attacks on the Dalits and tribals were increasing in the country after the BJP-led NDA government came into power.Referring to Brijesh Kumar Tribunal verdict on sharing of Krishna waters, he said a political decision should be taken on sharing of river waters in India.

He said a decision taken by Supreme Court on sharing of Kaveri waters between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka had no big impact because Karnataka is not respecting the orders. He said Karnataka government is bluntly saying that it had no surplus water and hence could not release water to Tamil Nadu. He suggested to the Chief Ministers of AP and Tamil Nadu to work together and fight with the Central government to get justice. He found fault with the Central government on dealing with the Krishna water distribution and Brijesh Kumar Tribunal on sharing of Krishna waters.

He felt both Telugu States will suffer due to the judgment of the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal on distribution of Krishna waters.Demands CBI probe into Nayeem’s encounter: CPI national secretary Narayana demanded that the notorious gangster Nayeem’s encounter should be probed by CBI under the supervision and direction of a court.

He said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was not sufficient to probe the case, as DGP-level officers were facing allegations on having connections with the gangster, who was gunned down by the Telangana police three months ago.He said that many political leaders were accused of having ties with the gangster.
