Hyderabad: Though political class rubbing shoulders with cine stars is not a new phenomenon in Telugu States, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s move to grant Rs 9.76 crore to the Turbo Megha Airways, owned by the actor-cum-entrepreneur Ram Charan Teja, Mega Start Chiranjeevi’s son, to cover the losses incurred by the airways under Viability Gap Funding (VGF), is likely to raise many an eyebrow.
It may be noted here that VGF is a grant provided to support infrastructure projects that are economically justified but fall short of financial viability.
The AP government issued a GO granting administrative sanction to the tune of Rs 4.90 crore on October 25 to the extent of VGF payable to Turbo Megha Airways Pvt. Ltd. for operating air services in Vijayawada- Tirupati- Vijayawada, and Vijayawada- Kadapa- Vijayawada sectors.
It is estimated that the airways incurred a loss of Rs 9.76 crore in last six months. The moot point is that whether Naidu also support other entrepreneurs who invested in AP. Against this backdrop, the speculation is rife in political circles that Naidu is trying to woo the mega star to neutralize the latter’s brother power star Pawan Kalyan.
Though Telugu Desam Party cadres believe that it was because of Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party, they lost the 2009 elections. However, like the famous adage goes ‘In politics there are no permanent enemies and friends’, the TDP chief, who is up against a lot of criticism in regard with his government’s failure in achieving Special Category Status, direly in need of someone of the caliber and crowd-puller like Mega Star Chiranjeevi.
Of late, the Mega Star is not active politically and was busy with his 150th flick ‘Khaidi No 150’. It’s learnt that wooing Mega family is also aimed at Kapus community, besides silencing Pawan Kalyan.
