Former MLC and senior political leader Gorle Haribabu Naidu (65) died of heart attack at his residence in Patharlapalli village in Ranastalam mandal on Thursday late night.

Srikakulam: Former MLC and senior political leader Gorle Haribabu Naidu (65) died of heart attack at his residence in Patharlapalli village in Ranastalam mandal on Thursday late night.

Haribabu Naidu joined the Congress as a follower of Gorle Sriramulu Naidu and served as the District Congress Party president for 15 years from 1991 to 2004. He had worked as AICC member, State Youth Congress general secretary. He contested as a Congress nominee from Pathapatnam Assembly segment in 1999 and 2004 elections but was defeated.

He was elected as ZPTC from Hiramandalam in 2006 on Congress ticket and elected as an MLC from local bodies segment in 2007 with TDP support. He joined Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), later switched over his loyalties to TDP before 2014 elections. He is survived by wife, three daughters and a son. Last rites were performed at Patharlapalli village in Ranastalam mandal on Friday.
