The two-judge PIL bench of the High court comprising acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice A Shanker Narayana on Tuesday granted a week time to the government to place before the court its action taken report on allegations of illegal limestone mining in Konakani, Nadikudi and other areas of Guntur district.

The bench reacted to a PIL filed by former MLC T G V Krishna Reddy, who pointed out that earlier a writ plea was filed before this court complaining of large-scale illegal mining and the court had issued directions to the government in March to take necessary action, identify the persons behind the illegal mining and take steps in accordance with law to recover the estimated revenue loss.

The petitioner then was one Guruvachari, who subsequently had joined the ruling TDP. The petitioner pointed out that the illegal mining is at the instance of the local MLA Y Srinivas Rao of Gurjala.
