Eluru: Joint Director of Agriculture Y Sai Lakshmeswari said that 2.12 lakh tonnes of fertilisers would be supplied to farmers of the district in the rabi season and that a comprehensive plan had been chalked out for the same. She was speaking at the inauguration of an Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS) system for sale of pesticides, seeds and fertilisers at the District Cooperative Marketing Society (DCMS) on Tuesday.

The joint director said that around 1.36 lakh tonnes of various fertilisers and pesticides were kept ready for farmers through 1,100 dealers in the district, as the rabi season had already started. And that more stock would be procured in the next month. She said that farmers need not worry about the shortage of small denomination currency as the administration was implementing cashless transactions through ATMs, RuPay and other debit and credit cards..

The Joint director hailed the DCMS’s initiative to supply fertilisers, seed and pesticides through 17 depots with the special App prepared by HDFC bank.

She said that the Agriculture department was supplying pulses on 33 percent subsidy to the farmers and had already distributed 120 metric tonnes of pulses in Kovvuru, Chintalapudi and KR Puram agriculture divisions to the farmers.

DCMS Senior Business Manager Mullapudi Venkataramana said that cashless transactions would come into force from Wednesday at 17 depots and added that farmers are purchasing seeds and other essentials with their bank cards. Agriculture Deputy Director M Prasad, HDFC Bank manager K Srinivas and others participated in the programme.
